Rohtak, May 30:
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed all concerned departments to ensure that flood prevention, urban flood management and drainage improvement works are completed well before the onset of the monsoon season so that no urban or rural area in the district faces waterlogging during heavy rainfall.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on flood preparedness and drainage management at the Camp Office, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the preparedness of the Municipal Corporation, Irrigation Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Power Department, HSVP, HSIIDC, Panchayati Raj institutions and other concerned agencies.

He emphasized that preventive action taken before the monsoon is critical to protecting public infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted mobility and minimizing inconvenience to citizens.

Special Focus on Waterlogging-Prone Areas

The Deputy Commissioner directed departments to identify and revisit all locations from where waterlogging complaints had been received during previous monsoon seasons.

He instructed officials to undertake field inspections and ensure permanent corrective measures wherever recurring issues have been observed.

“Every department must proactively assess vulnerable locations within its jurisdiction and ensure that manpower, machinery and response systems are in place before the rains arrive,” he said.

Drainage Network and Desilting Works to Be Completed on Priority

Reviewing the preparedness of the Irrigation Department, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to complete the cleaning and desilting of all drains, disposal channels and the Rohtak Link Drain in a time-bound manner.

He stressed that there should be no obstruction in the drainage network and directed the Municipal Corporation and Irrigation Department to jointly inspect critical drainage points.

A joint coordination mechanism between the Irrigation Department and Municipal Corporation has also been directed for monitoring the maintenance and upkeep of the Rohtak Link Drain.

Urban Flood Management Measures Intensified

The Deputy Commissioner instructed Municipal Corporation officials to undertake comprehensive cleaning of all storm-water drains, sewer lines and urban drainage channels.

He further directed that rural areas should also be equipped with adequate pumping arrangements wherever required and that village ponds should be cleaned and maintained to facilitate temporary storage of excess rainwater during periods of heavy rainfall.

Advance Deployment of Equipment

To ensure rapid response during emergencies, officials have been directed to keep the following equipment readily available in vulnerable areas:

* Pump sets
* Generators
* JCB machines
* Suction machines
* Other emergency response equipment

The Power Department has been instructed to remain prepared to provide immediate electricity connections for pumping systems wherever required and to closely monitor power infrastructure in sensitive locations.

Super Sucker Machine to Strengthen Drainage Infrastructure

The meeting also reviewed the Municipal Corporation’s plan to deploy a Super Sucker Machine for large-scale cleaning of sewer lines, drains and water discharge systems.

Officials informed that the machine will commence operations from Monday.

The advanced equipment is capable of removing accumulated silt, sludge, soil and solid waste from drainage networks, thereby significantly improving water flow, reducing sewer blockages and strengthening the city’s monsoon preparedness.

Nodal Officers and Quick Response System

The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to designate nodal officers for the monsoon season and ensure prompt action on complaints received through control rooms and public grievance channels.

He stated that any delay in relief or drainage response during periods of waterlogging would be viewed seriously.

“Preparedness, coordination and timely response are the key pillars of effective flood management. Every department must remain fully alert and ready to respond throughout the monsoon season,” he added.
