Chandigarh, May 30 – Haryana Tourism and Heritage Minister, Dr. Arvind Sharma said that heritage is not limited to old buildings and monuments but is a reflection of our culture, traditions and identity. He said that regular walking is beneficial for health, and when combined with an opportunity to connect with historical heritage, its significance increases manifold. He urged the youth to learn about their heritage, understand its importance and contribute towards its preservation.

The Minister was speaking after participating as the Chief Guest in a Heritage and City Walk organised by Haryana Tourism Corporation in Sonipat on Saturday. The walk commenced from Ethnic India, Rai, and concluded at the historic Badkhalsa Memorial. A large number of youth, representatives of social organisations and residents participated in the event. Organised under the campaign “Aao Chalein Apni Virasat Ke Saath”, the initiative aims to connect youth and tourists with the historical, cultural and religious heritage of the state.

At the conclusion of the walk, participants were briefed about the history of the Badkhalsa Memorial. They were informed that in 1675, when the sacred head of Guru Tegh Bahadur was being taken from Delhi to Anandpur Sahib, it was being pursued by the Mughal army. At that critical moment, the brave martyr Dada Kushal Singh Dahiya sacrificed his own life to ensure the safe passage of the Guru’s sacred head. His unparalleled sacrifice for the protection of faith and humanity continues to inspire generations with the values of courage, dedication and selfless service.

Dr. Sharma paid floral tributes to the martyr Dada Kushal Singh Dahiya and said that his sacrifice remains a timeless example in Indian history. He said that preserving the memories of such great heroes and acquainting the younger generation with their ideals is a shared responsibility. He added that the life of Dada Kushal Singh Dahiya symbolises courage, sacrifice and patriotism and will continue to inspire society for generations to come.

Speaking on the occasion, Kharkhoda MLA Sh. Pawan said that Haryana is blessed with a glorious history and rich cultural heritage. Such programmes provide the younger generation with an opportunity to learn about the state's history and the contributions of great personalities. He said that preservation of heritage sites is not only the responsibility of the government but also a collective responsibility of society. He called upon the youth to take pride in their heritage and pass it on to future generations.
