Chandigarh, August 24- Haryana Social Justice, Empowerment, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare and Antyodaya (SEWA) Minister Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi said the State Government is committed to protecting the interests of farmers. He directed officers to work with sensitivity and priority to ensure that farmers receive the benefits of government schemes and facilities on time. He said time-bound resolution of public grievances is a priority of the government.

 

The Cabinet Minister was chairing a meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committee at the local DPRC building on Monday at Fatehabad. A total of 13 complaints were taken up at the meeting, of which nine were resolved on the spot. In the remaining four cases, the officers concerned were directed to take necessary action and submit detailed reports at the next meeting.

 

During the meeting, farmers from Daiyar village complained that they had suffered financial losses due to incorrect objections raised against their cotton crop insurance claims. A report of the committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner was presented at the meeting.

 

District Revenue Officer Shyam Lal informed the meeting that crop insurance claims amounting to Rs. 116.89 crore had been approved for farmers of the district, of which Rs. 68 crore had already been paid. Payments in some cases were pending due to mismatches. Following the directions of the committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner, the insurance company released Rs. 48 crore on July 23 to farmers of 33 villages.

 

An amount of approximately Rs. 30 lakh remains pending in some cases due to mismatches and the death of the farmers concerned. These cases will be resolved as per rules and the payments released accordingly.

 

Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi directed officers to ensure that farmers receive the benefits of the crop insurance scheme as well as all other government welfare schemes and that pending cases are resolved expeditiously in accordance with the rules.

 

Road level to be inspected again

Sadhu Jangra, a resident of Barsin village, raised a complaint regarding the level of a road constructed by the Zila Parishad. The Executive Engineer informed the meeting that the road level had already been checked and residents were satisfied.

The Minister, however, directed officers to inspect the road once again in the presence of the complainant. He said any deficiency found during the inspection should be rectified immediately.

 

Ensure quality in pipeline work

 

Sunder and other residents of Badopal raised concerns over the quality of a pipeline laid for drainage. Officials informed the meeting that action had been taken against the contractor after deficiencies were detected and payment had also been withheld. The pending work will be taken forward after the appointment of an officer.

 

The Cabinet Minister directed officers to complete the necessary action and ensure that the remaining pipeline work is completed at the earliest with high quality and in accordance with the prescribed standards.

 

Detailed report sought in road construction case

 

Kulwant Saini, a resident of Ratia, raised a complaint regarding construction of a road in an unapproved colony. A committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner inspected the site and submitted its report.

 

Following a request by members of the committee for reassessment, the Cabinet Minister directed that the matter be thoroughly examined and a detailed report presented at the next meeting.

 

Canal watercourse to be opened immediately

Taking up a request by Shravan Kumar, a resident of Nadhori, for restoration of a canal watercourse, Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi directed the concerned Duty Magistrate to get the watercourse opened immediately so that adequate irrigation water is available for the farmer’s crop.

He said farmers should not face any obstruction in getting irrigation water.

 

13 of 14 demands of Safai Karmacharis agreed upon

Later, speaking to the media after the grievances committee meeting, Cabinet Minister Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi said the State Government is taking the demands of Safai Karmacharis seriously. Of the 14 issues related to the Safai Karmacharis’ strike, an agreement has been reached on 13, while one issue involves certain legal and technical complexities.

 

He said he had also discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, who is taking the issue seriously and will consider the employees’ demand with sensitivity.

 

Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi said the government’s clear objective is to resolve the genuine problems of employees through dialogue and positive engagement. It is in this spirit that agreement has already been reached on most of their demands.

 

He appealed to Safai Karmacharis not to adopt a confrontational approach towards the administration and to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. He said the government understands their concerns and is sensitive to their genuine demands. While most issues have been resolved, the legal and technical process in the remaining matter still needs to be completed.

 

Sh. Krishan Kumar Bedi again appealed to Safai Karmacharis to have faith in the government, end their strike, return to work and take the process of resolution forward through dialogue. He said the government remains committed to resolving all genuine demands with a positive approach and will make efforts to resolve the remaining issue in accordance with the law and rules.
